A passport is an essential document that is used for purpose of travel it allows citizens from one country to enjoy some fundamental rights while in another country.
In Jamaica one of the requirements in securing a passport is the birth certificate. This as the birth certificate gives proof of age, nationality and the spelling of names.
In the instances where persons are married they must submit the marriage certificate from the RGD to substantiate the name change in their passports.
The birth and marriage certificate is also needed to renew the passports In the case of applying for a passport of a minor under 16 the parents name must appear on the child’s certificate.
In the case of a father whose particulars is absent from his child’s certificate he must add his name at the RGD before he can apply.
In obtaining a passport from another country one must present their birth certificate along with their naturalization certificate.
