RGD’s Role in obtaining a Tax Registration Number
- Tax payer registration number is a unique nine digit number that is issued to the individual taxpayer, companies , businesses , charities and partnerships. Persons from outside of Jamaica seeking to conduct trade must have a TRN. Every Jamaican applying for a TRN must present a birth certificate.
- In the event the individual conducts a deedpoll they must present a copy of their birth certificate along with their deedpoll to the tax administration department. The birth certificate is important as it provides evidence to the proof of name.
- Additionally, there are some unique information presented on the birth certificate that is taken into account that prevents the issuing of same TRN to person with a similar or exact name.
- If an error in the name is made on the TRN it can only corrected with the birth certificate. This means persons will have to visit the RGD to obtain a copy of their birth certificate to correct the document
- Married persons must present a copy of their marriage certificate when they apply for their TRN.
